We are so blessed by the impact that the Center was able to have in our community (and beyond) in 2020 which emboldened us to prepare for even greater accomplishments in 2021. We were excited to begin preparing for our annual Spring to Life Gala. Although we were a little behind schedule and were having to make adjustments due to Covid-19, we were looking forward to hosting an in-person event (and we even had the Save the Date cards ready to mail!) Unfortunately, several things came up in the past two weeks that caused us to reconsider hosting the event. Although the Covid-19 pandemic was a factor in our decision, it was not actually a primary aspect to our decision.
Luci Hough, our executive director, was just diagnosed with breast cancer and her surgery is scheduled for April 1st. Thankfully they found the cancer early and she is only in stage 1a and it does not appear she will need chemo or radiation. However, because of her surgery and the recovery period Luci will be out of the office during the critical last few weeks of preparing for the Gala and would be unable to attend to attend the Gala as well.
We were also not able to return to the Convention Center in College Park because they are not hosting any Spring events. We were considering returning to Crowne Plaza for the Gala, but for a variety of reasons we were not excited about moving our event there this year. Those factors, coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic, have caused us to make the very difficult decision to postpone this year’s Spring to Life Gala. We already have the Gala design, theme, and speaker and look forward to planning ahead for our 2022 Spring to Life Gala!
We are truly disappointed that we will be unable to host you at our Gala this year, and we look forward to connecting with you in other ways throughout the year. Thank you for your support and passion for life! Please let us know if you have any questions or comments. We always love to hear from you!
