A Tale of Two Moms
We do not often have the opportunity to hear stories from the moms of many of our clients, but we have recently heard from two that stand out. This summer, we received a call from the mother of a previous client who phoned from out-of-state to thank us for talking with her and her daughter three years ago when the daughter came to Fayette PRC with an unplanned pregnancy. The pregnant woman was young and fearful. During the pregnancy test intake, it was disclosed that the mom and daughter felt abortion was the only option for the pregnancy. Thankfully, after spending time with our nurses and peer counselors, the young woman decided for lifeand gave birth to a baby boy some months later. The caller wanted us to know how much her grandson brings joy. She “cannot imagine life without him” and, therefore, called to thank us.
Not long after this call, we received a second from another mother. Her voice expressed urgency over the phone and deep concern for her adult daughter who’d had an abortion over the weekend. The daughter was “still bleeding” (common) and “distraught” about the abortion. The mother was wrestling with her own emotions, as she admitted to being indifferent about the pregnancy and “didn’t speak out against the abortion.” Now she, too, was experiencing guilt over the daughter’s decision. “I should have spoken up.” We silently wished the young woman and her mom had called before the decision for abortion was made—so they could recognize their pregnancy options—but it was not the case. However, our front desk personnel handled the call well and tried to help with a referral. Yet, the contrast between the two stories represents the power that support—or lack thereof—has on a pregnancy decision.
These are the narratives that fuel our passion to continue serving men and women in our community! As supporters of Fayette PRC through your prayers and finances, you are part of our clients’ lives. In this regard, the stories of our clients are your stories, too. We are grateful and appreciate your continued prayers as we love and care for all who call or come through our doors.
