In November, Fayette PRC honors our volunteers with an Appreciation Luncheon. We want to take a moment to share with you the story of a moment that illustrates the impact made by our special volunteers in our Blessing Boutique.

A few months ago, I (Heather) heard a toddler gleefully shrieking in the hallway and looked up in time to see him run by the office door with a Blessing Boutique (BB) volunteer following one step behind in watchful oversight. Within a minute, he made a turn and was on his way back down the hallway, with the volunteer still dutifully in tow. The joyful giggles signified the toddler was relishing the “chase,” which prompted me to arise from my desk. Peering down the hallway, I curiously noticed the Blessing Boutique (baby resources store) door now closed with the child’s voice still at full volume—clearly having the time of his life. The scene prompted me to stroll down and inquire about the situation. With a big smile, a staff members reported that the BB volunteers take it upon themselves to help this boy’s mother by watching (chasing!) her son while she does her Earn While You Learn video lesson. The toddler’s learning deficits make it difficult for her to concentrate, “although he’s far less disrupted today than previously.” (!)

On that day, I was moved by the service of Blessing Boutique volunteers who went “above and beyond” normal responsibilities to give a young mom time away from an active toddler. Their sacrifice did not go unnoticed.
