Update as of 10/7/24, The Supreme Court of Georgia has reinstated the state’s ban on abortions that was recently struck down by a lower court judge. The Georgia General Assembly ruled that the ban could remain in place while it considers the state’s appeal to the September 30th, 2024 ruling that found the law unconstitutional. Thank you for praying with us!
Effective immediately (9/30/24), the state of Georgia can no longer enforce Heartbeat Law restrictions that make abortion illegal after the detection of a heartbeat (around 6 weeks). A Georgia Superior Court Judge has ruled that the state can no longer enforce the 2019 Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act that took effect in 2022 (commonly known as the “Heartbeat Law”). This new ruling now allows for abortions to be performed up to “about 22 weeks of pregnancy.” As of October 3rd, the Georgia Attorney General has asked the state Supreme Court to allow Georgia’s six-week abortion ban to be enforced again while the state’s appeal is being considered. Please pray with us that God brings protection to all pregnancy-help centers/clinics/ministries in Georgia. Ask Him to raise up more people to stand in the gap and to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
- Pray for pregnancy clinics/centers in the state to know how to work with the changes.
- Pray this does not induce “abortion tourism” (people coming across state lines for abortions) if it is not overruled by the GA Supreme Court.
- Pray against any efforts to potentially amend our state constitution in ways that would guarantee access to abortion and limit our state’s ability to protect life.
- Pray for any “at risk” women who may (re)consider abortion now that it is “legal” in state.
