The title of the most recent ECFA Members Financial Snapshot was “Optimism Grows as 2020 Begins.” We had every reason to believe that 2020 would be another year of growth and prosperity for American businesses and charities. But in the first quarter, the Coronavirus pandemic changed everything. And now as Americans struggle to recover in the second quarter, rioters are burning buildings and looting in many of our cities.
These are challenging times, but we remain optimistic. Our optimism is grounded in hope, and as the hymn goes, “Our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” Our services are needed now more than ever, and opportunities abound to share the gospel and help those who have no hope.
Our financial partners understand the critical nature of our services and share our passion to reach out to those in need. Because of the faithfulness of our partners we were able to keep our ministry open as residents were required to shelter in place. Under the exceptions for Essential Services and Critical Infrastructure, we continued to provide medical services and distribute baby formula, diapers and wipes throughout the shutdown.
This was possible because of dedicated staff members and faithful donors. We are grateful for the giving of our individual contributors, supporting churches, business sponsors, foundation grantors. Our ministry is healthy and strong, and we praise God for His blessings. Thank you for your faith that leads you to support us and allows us to say boldly, “Our optimism grows!”
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
Oh Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
(The Solid Rock, Edward Mote, ca. 1834)
